Shutdown Action Plan for Large Food Manufacturer
Duration: 6 Weeks
Overview
Perry Construction Management was brought in to manage a high-risk, six-week plant shutdown for a large food manufacturer. The shutdown involved 16 concurrent capital projects alongside critical maintenance and sanitation activities, all conducted with 189 contractors onsite. PCM was tasked with developing and executing a coordinated plan to eliminate scheduling conflicts, resource bottlenecks, and execution risk.

Scope of Work
- Developed a comprehensive work area schematic to map contractor zones
- Facilitated a plant-wide coordination meeting with all stakeholders
- Identified and resolved overlapping scopes and timeline conflicts
- Reallocated contractor resources to prevent workflow delays
- Oversaw execution of 16 capital projects during the shutdown
Results
All capital, maintenance, and sanitation projects were completed on time and within budget, despite the complexity and volume of concurrent work. PCM’s detailed planning and on-the-ground coordination eliminated project conflicts, streamlined workflows, and ensured safe, uninterrupted shutdown execution. This initiative demonstrated PCM’s ability to lead large-scale, high-stakes shutdowns with precision and control.
“We brought PCM in for 9 days to coach us on how to better execute capital projects internally. He quickly discovered a massive oversight on our part. I owe my life as well as all the others present that day to PCM for preventing a combustible dust explosion that would have occurred had they not stepped in. We hired PCM to oversee all our capital projects after that!”
